Virtually any cosmetic issue can be improved with veneers. However, weak, worn, or decayed teeth are probably better served by a restorative treatment. Dental crowns made from aesthetic ceramic or porcelain are a good option for restoring form and function to damaged teeth.
Your veneers are applied over the course of two visits to our Tarpon Shores Dental office. During the first appointment, you and Dr. Shanaka will discuss your smile, including how your teeth got into their current state, and what you would like to achieve with porcelain veneers. Bring in photos of smiles you like to help demonstrate your goals.
Once a treatment plan has been put in place, Dr. Shanaka will begin by preparing your teeth for the veneers. It is necessary to remove a bit of enamel from the surface of each tooth to make room for the new layer that will be affixed on top. He’ll then takes impressions of your teeth and covers them with temporary veneers.
In the time between appointments, your permanent veneers will be crafted in a separate lab. Your temporaries will give you the first taste of life with a new and improved smile -- but just wait, because the best is yet to come.
Once your permanent veneers are ready, they are sent back to our dental office, and you’ll return for their final placement. Using local anesthesia as desired for maximum comfort, Dr. Shanaka will remove the temporary veneers and check to make sure the new ones look, fit, and feel like they should. Once any necessary adjustments are made, your veneers are securely affixed to your teeth!
